One of the most iconic and successful teams in IPL history, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), find themselves in unfamiliar and uncomfortable territory in IPL 2025. With just two wins from eight matches, the five-time champions are languishing at the bottom of the points table, occupying the dreaded 10th spot—a sight that has left fans heartbroken and critics stunned.
Following their latest drubbing at the hands of Mumbai Indians, where CSK’s total of 176 was chased down with alarming ease in just 15.2 overs, pressure has mounted on the team. Their net run rate has taken a serious hit, and questions loom large over the squad’s form and strategy.

Amidst this challenging phase, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan addressed the situation in a heartfelt interaction during an event in Chennai on Tuesday, April 22. Acknowledging the fans’ disappointment, he emphasized that this isn’t the first time CSK has hit a rough patch—and history has shown that the team knows how to bounce back.
“All of you will be a little bit disappointed with the performance of CSK this year. Of course, it’s bound to happen. We’ve had tough seasons before. We know we are not playing good cricket at the moment, but we remain hopeful of turning things around in the coming matches,” said Viswanathan.
Drawing inspiration from the past, he recalled the 2010 IPL season—a year when CSK lost five games in a row, only to rally back spectacularly and lift their maiden IPL title.

“Of course, we remember the year 2010. We lost five games in a row and went on to win the cup. That was the first year we won the title. I am sure the boys are committed. The team is committed. And with someone like Thala (MS Dhoni) at the helm, it’s only a matter of time before we come back,” he added.
Viswanathan also highlighted the contributions of key players like Shivam Dube and expressed confidence that the team still has enough firepower and spirit to salvage their campaign.
While CSK’s form may have dipped, the belief in the camp—and among their passionate fanbase—remains unshaken. As history has shown, writing off MS Dhoni and his men has often come back to haunt the doubters. Whether the Super Kings can script another fairytale comeback remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: they aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.
