NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal equalled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) legend Sunil Narine‘s record for most four-wicket hauls in Indian Premier League (IPL) history during their match at Mullanpur on Tuesday.
Chahal’s spectacular spell of 4/28 helped Punjab Kings secure a 16-run victory over KKR by defending a low total of 111 runs.
Chahal’s match-winning performance included the crucial wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh, triggering a KKR collapse from 62/2 to 95 all out. This was his eighth four-wicket haul in the IPL, matching Narine’s record.

The leg-spinner also achieved another milestone by becoming the third-most successful bowler against KKR with 33 wickets. This was his third four-wicket haul against KKR, the most by any bowler against a single opponent in IPL history.
In the current IPL season, Chahal has claimed six wickets in six matches at an average of 32.50 and an economy rate of 10.26. He has also surpassed T20 stalwarts Mohammed Nabi (369 wickets) and Mohammed Amir (366 wickets) to become the 11th-highest wicket-taker in T20 history.
With 370 wickets in 318 matches, Chahal stands as India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leads the overall T20 wicket-takers list with 638 wickets in 468 matches.

Poll

Which aspect of Chahal’s game do you think is most crucial?

In the match, PBKS chose to bat first after winning the toss. Priyansh Arya (22 off 12) and Prabhsimran Singh (30 off 15) provided a strong start with a 39-run partnership.
However, Harshit Rana’s impressive bowling (3/25) and Ramandeep Singh’s excellent fielding restricted PBKS to 54/4 in the powerplay. Sunil Narine (2/14) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/21) maintained pressure throughout, dismissing PBKS for 111 in 15.3 overs.
In reply, KKR’s chase was derailed by exceptional bowling from Chahal (4/28) and Marco Jansen (3/17). Despite Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 37 off 28 and Andre Russell’s quick 17 off 11, KKR was bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs.
The victory placed Punjab Kings in fourth position with eight points from four wins and two losses. KKR remained sixth with six points, having won three and lost four matches.
